LYDC are having their first audition of 2024 this April 6th.
The audition will be held at LYDC's usual training time of 3-6:30pm in the Dance Limerick Studio, 1 John's Square. LYDC Members will be present during the audition in order for potential new members to meet and train with the company.
At the beginning of the session we will have 'Circle Time' where we introduce ourselves and get to know the participants, their movement backgrounds and their current dance interests.
The audition will then comprise of three elements:
Contemporary Technique Class - Participants will take part in a contemporary techniques class similar to the weekly training received by LYDC.
Learned Choreography - Participants will be taught a short contemporary dance sequence which will be performed
Creative Task - Participants will be asked to engage in improvisation and creative movement tasks, another common practice within LYDC's choreographic processes.
The purpose of the audition is to determine if applicants have a degree of pre-existing technique, an ability to assimilate new movement and an openness to creative practices.
Parents will not be allowed into the studio during the audition, but are welcome to wait in the Dance Limerick Foyer, or you can leave the building and return at the end of the session. I'd advise parents to familiarise themselves with the LYDC website for information on our company practices and ethos.
We will inform all applicants of our decision within 1 week of the audition.
